Alef Aeronautics has opened a new chapter in the history of electric flying cars by releasing a video of their “Alef Model Zero” flying over another car on the road, showcasing for the first time that flying cars can become a reality.

The CEO of the company, Jim Dukhovny, stated that the company hopes this moment will be similar to the Wright brothers’ Kitty Hawk video, proving to humanity that new modes of transportation are possible.

This video is considered the first to show a flying car driving on the street, taking off vertically, flying, and then landing vertically, continuing to drive on the street.

To demonstrate that the flying car can drive like a regular car, Jim Dukhovny presented another video of the car driving on rough terrain.

Although the video may appear to be generated by artificial intelligence, NBC News attended a test flight, and their reporter said that they did not see a driver enter or exit.

This flying car is an electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicle, and it appears that the company tested a lightweight, remotely controlled version.

The flying car has a low top speed of 25 miles per hour. Although it looks like a regular car, its mesh exterior hides four rotors in the front and four in the rear, allowing it to fly like drones.

The company has been developing flying cars for about a decade. A larger version of this vehicle received certification to begin testing from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in 2023, allowing it to be tested in public airspaces.

The commercial version of the car, the Alef Model A, is priced at $300,000, and the company has received 3,330 preorders so far.
